We run a variety of events throughout the year; you are most welcome to join us! Check out our upcoming events below.

Old age, declining health, caring for dementia, bereavement and grief. Is it all doom and gloom, or can planning, knowledge and a supportive community offer hope? Most of us face these matters at some stage in our lives, and advice and support from others who have experience or expertise can be really valuable, reminding us we are not alone. Trinity Church Buxton would like to invite you to a morning of conversation and mini-seminars (with plenty of coffee and cake) to address some of these challenges.
WHEN? August 29 2025 • 10:30 – 12:30
WHERE? Trinity Church Buxton, Hardwick Mount, Buxton SK17 6PR
Talks will include an opportunity for questions and there will be time for informal conversations over refreshments. Five mini seminars will cover the following subjects:
Caring for elderly relatives
Caring: Should I? Shouldn’t I? No option? Led by Helen & John, in this session they will pose questions on what to consider in such situations, and lighten the tone with amusing anecdotes.

Helen has 18 years' experience of having had her in-laws living with her, and other caring responsibilities.

John's parents and his in-laws all suffered with dementia.
Planning future care
It is never too early to have conversations about the things that are important to you. What you would and wouldn’t want to happen in terms of your future medical care matters. Sophy will discuss the process of advance care planning and explain the ReSPECT form and how that can be used to document your preferences and guide the professionals caring for you.

Sophy has been an NHS doctor for 8 years and has experience of supporting individuals and their families with decisions regarding future care.
Is planning a funeral morbid?
While it may feel difficult to consider one's own funeral, when someone has given thought to what they would like, it hugely helps their family in a time of grief to plan a service that they have confidence is right and appropriate. This session will cover the various decisions that need to be made about the funeral itself, with questions to discuss with your loved ones.

Dave is Associate Minister of Trinity Church. Over his 22 years in ministry, he has helped hundreds of families plan funeral services.
Lasting power of attorney, wills and other important paperwork
This session will cover the following topics:
◦ What is a lasting power of attorney and why do you need one?
◦ The dangers of dying without a will.
◦ What to consider when making a will.
◦ What admin can I do now to help ease the burden for others after my death?

Zoë qualified as a solicitor in 1996. For the last 11 years she has specialised in wills, lasting powers of attorney and administering estates following death.
Who looks after the carer?
The maxim that you should ‘put on your own lifejacket before helping others with theirs’ applies strongly where we have a caring role to juggle into our lives. Sarah will discuss how we can help ourselves and who can support us, with some hands-on techniques and activities.

Sarah works as a physical therapist. She cared for her husband, who had Parkinson’s disease, whilst she was also working and bringing up a teenager. She is currently supporting her mother, who is also struggling with Parkinson’s.
